LONDON: Towards the 10th anniversary when the first detainees sent to Guantanamo Prison, Amnesty International called on U.S. President Barack Obama to close the prison.
In a report entitled Guantanamo: A Decade of Damage to Human Rights, Amnesty International highlighted a number of inhumane treatment suffered by Guantanamo detainees. Amnesty International also released 10 anti-human rights actions undertaken prison.
Obama never promised to close the Guantanamo prison on January 22, 2010. However, in December 2011, 171 people are still detained in prison. At least 12 of those 171 people are being sent to Guantanamo on January 11, 2002. One of them was serving a life sentence handed down by military courts in 2008 while 11 others never charged with any offense.
On January 11, 2012 or exactly 10 years of warnings Guantanamo, Amnesty International plans to hold a number of shows in various parts of the world. one is to make a human chain wearing orange clothing worn by Guantanamo detainees from the White House to reach Capitol Hill. (RO/OL-12)
